Small Shifts, Big Changes

November 9, 2021

Have you ever had a small pebble in your shoe when you’re trying to walk? That tiny, little rock can cause a lot of discomfort and pain, and can negatively impact your experience of walking, can’t it? In fact, it will usually stop you in your tracks until you remove the offending culprit from your shoe.

I was thinking about this the other day, and it occurred to me how the opposite sort of situation is also true. A tiny, little shift in our day-to-day life can cause a remarkable outcome for us and can positively affect our experience of life. Just then the following words started repeating through my mind: “Small shifts, big changes…small shifts, big changes...”

Suddenly, my mind started flooding with ideas of small shifts that could create big, positive changes for people. I decided to begin a series of blog posts to share some of these ideas with you. I will intersperse them with other posts with entirely different topics, but be looking for my “Small Shifts, Big Changes” posts in the months ahead. These will offer you suggestions of tiny, little actions that you can easily incorporate into your life that have the potential to create profound effects on your health and well-being.

The first small shift I want to share with you is simply to eat more apples. I’m sure you’ve heard the old proverb, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away,” but are you aware of the amazing gifts that apples have to offer us?

The Power of Apples

Apples are a potent anti-inflammatory fruit. They have properties that reduce viral and bacterial loads that cause inflammation, so they are extremely beneficial if you have any kind of illness. They have phytochemicals that assist digestion, help detoxify heavy metals and other toxins, and support brain function. The phytochemicals also help cleanse the organs, improve the circulation of the lymphatic system, and regulate blood sugar. Apples are a powerful cleanser for the colon. Pectin is the naturally occurring starch that gives structure to the cell walls of many fruits and vegetables, including apples. As it moves through the digestive system, it gathers bacteria, viruses, yeast, and mold along the way, carrying them out of the body. Apples also bathe our cells with hydration and replenish vital minerals.

Commit to Eating More Apples

Starting today, make the small shift to include one to three apples in your diet every single day. Be sure to buy organic apples (they are on the Environmental Working Group’s Dirty Dozen list). Experiment with all different varieties of apples to discover which ones are your favorites. See what big changes you notice over time after making this small shift.🍎

“It’s instilled in our bodies that when the outside world seems bleak,

an apple can reconnect us to life, rebirth, sunlight, and summertime.”
